August 2020

Alert Level 2 will continue for another 2 weeks in Canterbury. To ensure we are doing our part and adhering to the rules outlined by the Government, the following guidelines are in place at the Hornby Club:

Christchurch is moving back into Alert Level 2 at midday today (12 August 2020). Under Alert Level 2, we are limited to 100 people at one time at the Club.

We ask that all visitors to the Club sign in or use the tracing app and that everyone practices social distancing and good hygiene. If you are sick, please stay at home.

We will continue with bar service, however strict social distancing will apply.

Opening hours will not change, however usual promotion on Wednesday, Thursday & Friday have been cancelled.

The official opening date for phase one of the Club’s redevelopment will be Wednesday, 14th October.

This includes the opening of our beautiful new pavilion, three new courtyards, the pool room and of course our new bar. We can’t wait to see you there!

The fit out of the new Club is coming along smoothly. We have beautiful new joinery and the timber features look incredible.

Greetings from the Cribbage Crew.

We held our AGM on 15 July and would like to thank all who attended. Diane Heath is our Chairperson and Ricky Winter is the Vice Chairperson. Rose Stevens is Treasurer and Christine Payne is Secretary. Our committee includes Gina HowdenWinter, Derrick Hosking, James Kavanagh and the newly appointed Steve Stevens. Sharon Lord did not stand this year and we would like to thank her for her help whilst on the committee.

Hello All

Snooker contests are well underway at our base at Holt Place.

The Drawn Handicap Pairs was won by Brian Edgler and Geoff Baldwin over Bill Earle and Bob Bain. There were eight pairs playing.

We are due to play the Final of our Open Pairs. It will be Bill Earle and Bruce Tibble against Brent Jones and Geoff Baldwin in the best of five. Results will be announced in the next issue.

Hi there to all

Travel section held its first meeting since the lockdown on Monday 20th July. It was very pleasing to see such a large turnout with two new members attending.

We also had our first outing since lockdown after enduring three cancellations during that time.
