Hello there to all

Well we are all in the same situation where we plan, then postpone, or cancel. This is a difficult time for all but is something we must live with and is totally out of our control.

As disappointing as it seems, we must keep going, and hopefully things will come right before too long.

Greetings from the Cribbage Crew.

This month we held our Tasman Pairs and Tasman Singles. The winners of the pairs were Paul Bulman and Gina Howden-Winter. The singles were won by Rose Stevens, second place went to Terry Rushton and third equal to Ricky Winter and Lesley Bulman. On Wednesday 26 August we are playing the Charlie Gibson. We will share those results in the October Newsletter.

Hi to all members

With August upon us, we are again in trying times with Covid 19. We had been enjoying having our regular euchre nights until mid-August. We are looking forward to getting back to Level 1, whenever that may happen…

On the last Thursday in July, we had a fun pairs night, playing with the same partner all night. Our members really enjoyed these evenings. We had 12 tables and 48 players. The winning pair was Trish Cole and Cheryl Gianelly on 20pts, Marlene Troon and Faye Salton on 19pts, and Maurice Adler and Maurice King on 17pts.

The Golf Section had their second round of the Club Champs at Ellesmere. The weather was fine and sunny after a slight frost. In the Senior grade, Mike James and Richard Hampton prevailed.

The Intermediate Grade winners were Pete Halliwell and Jack -Kingi-Hazel. Junior A winners were Wayne Gruebner from Steve Lambert. Junior B top dogs were Pete Middlemiss and John Poole. Overall a great day and a barbecue to boot run by Ler Chef Moggy.

We are currently playing at the Avonhead Primary School Hall, 55 Avonhead Road, every second Monday at 7.30pm. We organised a visit to the Papanui Club indoor bowls section at the end of July. Eighteen of our members visited and we had a very enjoyable evening.

There are no Canterbury Chartered Clubs Championships this year.

Tournaments that ran in July and August saw several of our members achieving good results.

Well this year has been a real roller coaster ride, with Covid 19 causing havoc all over the place, including postponements and cancellations of tournaments and interclub.

One event that was able to be held was the Allan Cowan Memorial tournament on the first weekend in August. It was an enormous success with 145 entries, making it the largest tournament (not a Nationals or SI) in Canterbury for 15 years.

Good Afternoon All,

On behalf of the snooker guys, we hope you are safe and following all the Covid 19 rules.

The Intermediate Snooker Champs are at the Semi-final stage and so the result will be in the next newsletter. As will the Plate Championship results.

In Interclub, all the teams are right up the top. In the Premier grade the highest break is 56 by Brent Jones (Hornby), right behind is 54 by Rohit Aroma (Hornby).

Greetings from the Cribbage Crew.

We held our AGM on 15 July and would like to thank all who attended. Diane Heath is our Chairperson and Ricky Winter is the Vice Chairperson. Rose Stevens is Treasurer and Christine Payne is Secretary. Our committee includes Gina HowdenWinter, Derrick Hosking, James Kavanagh and the newly appointed Steve Stevens. Sharon Lord did not stand this year and we would like to thank her for her help whilst on the committee.

Hello All

Snooker contests are well underway at our base at Holt Place.

The Drawn Handicap Pairs was won by Brian Edgler and Geoff Baldwin over Bill Earle and Bob Bain. There were eight pairs playing.

We are due to play the Final of our Open Pairs. It will be Bill Earle and Bruce Tibble against Brent Jones and Geoff Baldwin in the best of five. Results will be announced in the next issue.

Hi there to all

Travel section held its first meeting since the lockdown on Monday 20th July. It was very pleasing to see such a large turnout with two new members attending.

We also had our first outing since lockdown after enduring three cancellations during that time.
